Professional Accomplishments
Dr. Barahona majored in animal science with minors in microbiology and Spanish at North Caroline State University. Before beginning her veterinary education, she worked in a small animal and exotic practice for two years. Once she began school, she realized her interest in surgery particularly, but she was also interested in other areas as well. Before dedicating herself to a single specialty, she elected to take part in a small animal rotating internship here at Carolina Veterinary Specialists. Ultimately she decided not to specialize, and joined a general practice for a few years. However, she felt she was able to use her additional education much more effectively in an emergency environment and returned to Carolina Veterinary Specialists just a short time later.
In her spare time, Dr. Barahona enjoys spending time with her family and cats – Sophie, Fifi, and Toula. She also has a dog – Khlai, and a cockatiel – Pierre. Her favorite hobbies are gardening, crocheting, and playing video games with her husband.
